Tarte Shape Tape Foundation Review

So, I never followed the hype for the Shape Tape concealer. But when I heard a foundation was coming, I knew I had to jump on board with everyone! The day the foundation was released, I went straight to the Tarte website to get my hands on the foundation and concealer. I chose the shade light in the concealer (which I regret as it’s too light for me, so I don’t use it) and the shade medium-light honey in the foundation (which I thought would be too dark but it’s a bit light haha you can’t win)!

I opted for the matte version of the Tarte Shape Tape foundation, they have a dewy foundation but I thought, as the concealer is about being full coverage, a matte foundation would match the overall hype anyway. I love the packaging, I love the design on the lid, and the bottle is heavy which makes it feel expensive (and it is, bloody £35!!)

ANYWAY, I don’t even feel like writing a review on this foundation. I’ve had the Shape Tape foundation for a while and I’ve already forgotten about it. I bought it straight away, without reading reviews so I can be quick on the hype for once- but I regret buying the Tarte Shape Tape foundation so much!

I put the foundation on by using the doe foot applicator and apply it like I would a concealer all over my face. I then blended it out with a beauty blender. I like the applicator as it is easy and not messy at all. It isn’t as bad as I thought it would be to blend out and doesn’t take that long. I don’t think I’d ever use a brush to apply this foundation as it would be too heavy.

It is so matte that it makes me look stiff, cakey and my face looks completely flat. As soon as it is applied, it sinks into all the lines! When I looked on my forehead, and noticed the line it sunk into, I looked horrendous! I’ve never noticed that line until now! The foundation is incredibly cakey and feels so heavy on the skin, I hate it when you can feel makeup on your face.

For me, makeup did not apply nicely over the top. As soon as it sets there is no adding more! I realised I had missed a bit by the side of my cheek and when I tried to put more on it went a weird colour. When I put bronzer on my cheeks, it looked terrible. I don’t even like putting bronzer on foundation that isn’t set by powder, and obviously I didn’t want to set this foundation as it looks very dry.

To be honest, I don’t know what the staying power is like on this foundation. I couldn’t even keep it on for longer than an hour. Wearing this foundation made me realise that now I do not like a matte, full coverage foundation. I don’t even think the foundation is actually that full coverage.

This is the worst review I have ever posted and I’m sorry! I really wanted to like the Tarte Shape Tape Foundation but I don’t! If you have tried this I’d love to know what you think! Thanks for reading!

So gutted you didn’t get along with this foundation! I’ve not tried it, but I love everything I’ve tried from Tarte before. It’s pretty pricey too xx

Thanks for your opinion! It’s been SUPER controversial so I don’t think I’m going to spend the money on it. Too bad too because it was SO hyped! Thanks for the review!
